A ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. The diet involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat.

Ketones are derived from fat stores in the body. When you cut carbs from your daily intake, the liver produces ketones as an alternative energy source to drive its functions.

The reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. While in ketosis, our body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy, which can lead to weight loss.
